ONE DIRECTION
Two songs, two worlds, one stadium tour.
The Client
One Direction and The Workshop. One of the biggest acts on the planet, selling out arenas across the world. When the stage needed to match the scale of the music, that was the gig.
The Ask
Two songs, two completely different worlds. Heart Attack called for an immersive underground backdrop, brick walls, street posters, raw energy, that put the crowd inside the music. Teenage Dirtbag already had a Marvel illustrator's vision of the band as superheroes. The task: take it from the page to the stage.
The Answer
Every night on tour, the animations played live behind the band. For Heart Attack, brick walls came to life and posters popped to the beat, wrapping the crowd in the feel of the song. For Teenage Dirtbag, the superhero world jumped off the page and onto the stage.
behind the build
Heart Attack
Each world had to play live behind the band every night, and read from the very back row of a sold-out arena.
The trick was scale: big, bold, and locked to the beat, so 20,000 people felt the song as much as heard it.
teenage Dirtbag
Teenage Dirtbag went the other way. A bright, bold comic-book world of flat panels and heavy linework, brought to life with the punch of a graphic novel splash page.
Colour cranked, lines sharp, all of it styled to make the superhero universe leap off the screen.
